December Letter from Pastor Nickel

images“Thus says the LORD: ‘Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls’. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’” ~Jeremiah 6:16

The holiday season from Thanksgiving, through Advent and Christmas, into New Year’s, can be chaotic. Sometimes, in our busyness and preparation for “the CELEBRATION!!!” we forget why we are preparing and why we are celebrating. This chaos and pressure can get us so down that we miss the point of the holiday.

As you prepare for Christmas, I invite you to pause, “stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is.” The rest for our souls comes in the Christ Child.

Jesus says, in Matthew 11:28-29, “Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

As we lay our burdens of anxiety and sin upon the Son of God, and as we believe that our sins are forgiven for the sake of this Christ Child who came to redeem us, we can bear the stresses of this time with ease.

Christ is the good Way.

Walk in the Way, and find rest for your soul.
