Christmas is Coming!! I know it’s not even officially Fall yet but there is no time to waste…. We are currently searching for our Children’s Christmas Program Volunteer Team! If you have a love for working with Children and enjoy helping them to have fun and make special memories…. We need you! Whether your gift is organizing, costume creation, singing, directing, etc. This year’s Children’s Christmas Program is currently set to be on Sunday, December 17th.  We will have practices on the two Sunday’s prior to that (Dec. 3rd and Dec. 10th) during our Sunday School hour of 9:30-10:30. This is always such an extra special time full of wonderful memories! I just know you will want to be a part of it! Reformation Celebrations: There are several local celebrations to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. On Friday September 29th Immanuel Lutheran Church 107 Scott Street Tonawanda, NY 14150 will show the PBS Documentary “Martin Luther: An Idea That Changed the World” at 7pm. They will show the Documentary again on Saturday Sept 30th at 10:00am and then after a break for lunch host a clergy panel discussion from 1;15 -2:15pm on the Reformation and its lasting impact for today. On October 29th St. Matthew Lutheran Church 875 Eggert Drive, North Tonawanda, NY 14120 will host a special Vespers Service at 3pm with a light reception to follow. Holy Cross will be hosting a special Lutheran Heritage Sunday on Sunday November 12th. More details to come.

Operation Christmas Child – It’s shoebox time! Starting October 15th, we will again have shoeboxes available for you to fill.  New this year – the donation per box has increased to $9 to cover shipping and ministry. Also, toothpaste and candy can no longer be accepted due to custom regulations.  Please return your shoebox(es) by Sunday, November 12th.  Thank you!

Renaissance Banquet and Luther Talks: Saturday, October 21, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church (this was originally scheduled to be at St. Paul Lutheran, North Tonawanda) 875 Eggert Dr., N. Tonawanda NY. Come hungry with an appetite for wonderful cuisine that Martin Luther might have enjoyed and get some Reformation knowledge to boot!  This once-in-a-lifetime event celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, is being planned by Holy Ghost and seven other Niagara area LCMS churches working together, in collaboration and for the benefit of the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. Registration at St. Matthew Lutheran begins at 12:30pm. There are TWO parts to the event: Luther talks beginning at 1:15pm and Renaissance dinner beginning at 5:15pm. Tickets are $30 per person – price is the same for ALL day or dinner only. 1:15 pm – Luther Talks – we will begin with a brief service in the sanctuary, led by Rev. Karl W. Haeussler, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Tonawanda. Dr. Cameron MacKenzie (Concordia Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN) will then speak about “Historical context of the Reformation”. At 5:15 pm a Renaissance banquet will feature “time accurate” food and Renaissance style performances by comedian Nels Cremean (InJest), members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (musical group), and Rev. Karl W. Haeussler (aka Martin Luther) as Master of Ceremonies. Adult Bible Study: Adult Bible Study on Sunday mornings is a video based study titled “We the Church: Priesthood of All Believers”.  All adults are welcome to join us each Sunday in the Narthex at 9:30 am for fellowship within the Word.

New Adult Inquirers Class!: Starting Wednesday October 4th there will be a 4 week class going through the 4 Solas of the Reformation- Christ Alone, Faith Alone, Scripture Alone, and Grace Alone. The class will be held on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm in the HCCC and all are welcome even if you cannot make it every week. On Wednesday November 1st we will have a special showing of the Luther Movie to wrap up this informative class. See Pastor Nickel for more information.

Holy Cross Does it Again!: Thank you so much for  your donations of juice boxes for Hearts for the Homeless! We had hundreds and hundreds of boxes! AMAZING! A special thanks to the Sunday School who also got involved. Nick was very appreciative and said “Hearts” is so grateful to Holy Cross for our continued support. GREAT WORK EVERYONE!!!  Jill Carl.
